OUR STORY
Tinig ng Laya was founded by students from the AB Communication Program of Ateneo de Davao University who believe that communication is not only a craft, but also a calling to speak for those who cannot and to tell stories that inspire empathy and change. The project began as a response to the growing concern about domestic violence in Davao City, where many cases remain hidden in silence and fear. Guided by the Jesuit value of being “persons for others,” the students envisioned an online platform where stories of survival, resources for help, and opportunities for action could come together in one empowering space.
The name "Tinig ng Laya", meaning Voice of Freedom, reflects the project's mission to amplify voices that have long been unheard. Through creative storytelling, digital campaigns, and educational materials, the advocacy seeks to shed light on the realities of domestic abuse and to challenge the stigma surrounding it. Each article, video, and feature aims to humanize the issue—reminding audiences that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story worth listening to. By harnessing their skills in media and communication, the students use the digital space not just to inform, but to move people into awareness and compassion.
Over time, Tinig ng Laya has grown into a collaborative effort involving local partners such as Lawig Bubai, Talikala Inc., and the Davao City Gender Development Council. Through these partnerships, the advocacy continues to expand its reach—bridging communities, supporting survivors, and promoting a culture of care and accountability. What began as a classroom initiative has become a living movement, reminding us that freedom begins with listening, and that every voice raised against violence brings us one step closer to a safer, kinder Davao.
